Meulebeke

The Church and market place

This is the church of the centre of Meulebeke. It is called the St. Amandus Church.
It is a neogotic church, built in 1896 with important changes in 1963.
Around the church is our market place which is the spot for feasts and the weekly market on Wednesday.

Meulebeke has several chapels. This is one of them: the Chapel of O.L. Vrouw van Bijstand (roughly in English: Chapel of Our Mother of Assistance). It was erected in 1715 and renovated in neogotic style in the 19th century. It is a renowned pilgrimage chapel for our area. Inside there are wonderful fresco's, made by the artist Van Baevegem. Every year there is a chapel route with torches in Meulebeke.
